National Tumbling – January
We kicked off the year with the national level tumbling. Our gymnasts worked hard on their skills for this competition, with many competing moves for the first time. It was a great start to 2015, with 4 medals for tumblers from our competition group.
SW Prelims – February
The first big acro competition of the year for the competition group is the South West Prelims. We compete against clubs who train many more hours than our gymnasts do, so to be there along side them and, often now, equalling their scores is a great achievement. Nine pairs and groups competed and three of these made the top 10 which is always our aim for these competitions.
Dorset – June
The Dorset Acro competition is always a favourite for the gymnasts and coaches. The development and competition groups compete and it’s always lovely to see the club come together as a big supportive team. For many of the development group this is their first taste of acro competitions and learning routines. This year we achieved 15 sets of medals…a fantastic result!
SW Championships – July
The South West Championships round off the acro competitions for the academic year. This year we achieved fantastic results! As mentioned, in South West competitions we aim for top 10 places, but this year we also achieved 2 sets of medals! Katie Morrison and Mikaela Dowling bronze medal in Grade 3 womens pairs…a great result in a very large group of competitors! And we also have a South West champion pair, with Ethan Spittles and Chloe Sarafopoulos achieving Gold medals in Grade 3 mixed pairs! A brilliant way to end the competitions for the summer!
For the first time, the competition group took part in GymFusion. With routines based on Legends they performed at the BIC with other clubs from the South West in front of a packed venue. The Dorset squad took a ribbons routine based on Nelson Mandela. The S/W squad performed a routine to Queen songs, also celebrating Bournemouth’s football team’s promotion to the permier legue (our local legends for the year!). They had great fun using the flags again! It was the biggest audience the gymnasts have performed in front of and they all loved it!
NEW Intermediate Group starts on Fridays – September
Our waiting list continues to grow! So, to alleviate pressure we started a new intermediates group on a Friday at 5pm at Avonbourne which is run by Leanne. The session has already proved to be really popular!
Regional Tumbling – November
This was a great friendly competition for our intermediate gymnasts. 24 gymnasts entered, and for many it was their first competition. We achieved 12 medals and all the coaches were very proud of how hard the gymnasts worked in the lead up to the competition!
City of Bristol Competition – November
To wrap up the year, our competition group competed in Bristol. For many they were in new pairs and trios, and for some it was even their first competition. It was a fantastic way to end the year, coming away with 3 bronze, 4 silver and a gold medal.
What a brilliant year for Avonbourne Gym Club!
We look forward the year ahead, and hope it will be as successful as 2015!
